Lark Rise To Candleford Ep 10/10
Easter Sunday 23 March

Philip (Oliver Jackson Cohen) is becoming increasingly possessive of Laura
Philip (Oliver Jackson Cohen) is becoming increasingly possessive of Laura

Tensions between Dorcas and Sir Timothy continue to grow as they review the history of their relationship, in tonight’s concluding episode of the adaptation of Flora Thompson’s magical memoir of her Oxfordshire childhood. A bitter argument gives way to a tender embrace, but Dorcas decides that she can’t go on living and working so close to Sir Timothy. She announces, to her devastated staff, that she intends to sell the Post Office and go travelling.

For Laura, meanwhile, love’s young dream is turning sour as Philip becomes increasingly possessive, and she expresses doubts about their relationship. Philip vents his frustration on Robert by demanding he tell Sir Timothy the identity of the poacher, but when he refuses Sir Timothy is forced to sack Robert from his job at the manor. This is the last straw for Laura, and she tells Philip she never wants to see him again.

It’s Zillah’s birthday and everyone visits the Post Office for a party. Sir Timothy also comes to tell Dorcas that he must put his family before their friendship and that he has decided to leave Candleford – he and Lady Adelaide will leave for London immediately. Dorcas is shocked but also relieved – perhaps now they can get on with their lives apart.

Caroline has been desperately hoping that her husband will return from sea before her baby’s born, but the baby won’t wait any longer and she gives birth at the Post Office during Zillah’s birthday celebrations.

Later, it emerges that Thomas didn’t post the deeds to the Post Office. Dorcas can stay and everyone is elated.

Dorcas Lane is played by Julia Sawalha, Sir Timothy Midwinter by Ben Miles, Laura Timmins by Olivia Hallinan, Philip White by Oliver Jackson Cohen, Robert Timmins by Brendan Coyle, Zillah by Liz Smith, Lady Adelaide by Olivia Grant, Caroline by Dawn French and Thomas Brown by Mark Heap.

According to the Radio Times it’s not on Sunday, instead they’re showing something called The Passion – I would have thought it would make more sense to show it on Easter Monday with it being related to Jesus, but hey I’m being logical and logic doesn’t always apply with the BBC!

Lark Rise to Candleford returns with the last episode on Easter Monday (23rd March).

Thanks Sharon, If you read the post you’ll see the date on the post is correct. 23rd IS Easter Sunday.

I don’t know why they decided to skip this week, I guess they are building up for a bumper Easter Sunday treat for us!

Thanks Admin – don’t know why I said Monday when I meant Sunday, I guess it’s because I usually have to tape Larkrise to Candleford and watch it the next day.

Still, its a shame we’re going to miss it for a week but it looks as if it’s going to be a very good episode so fingers crossed the wait will be worth it!

I’ve loved every episode and arrange my Sunday so that I can get the peace to give my full attention to the programme. Well done BBC. The costumes and set are great. I’m really sad that we are about to have the last episode. Let’s hope there is more in the pipeline!

What a relief to find that I haven’t missed an episode after all!
I just LOVE it! The caracters remind me very much of village folk during my youth, so it’s quite nostalgic.

How poor of the BBC to take for granted the loyal following they have
built up by missing out the last episode and replacing it with “The Passion”.
When the programme was first sheduled was it not realised that Easter
would be here and that they would have to delay it for a week.
This was terrible planning and I would like to know how it happened.
Must add however great Sunday evening viewing and a superb
performance by Julia Sawalha.

A really wonderful series….congratulations to the BBC for doing this so VERY well…Sunday evenings will seem hollow without this programme, and Olivia Hallinan has been the jewel in the crown!….an amazing young actress….and a real acting step up for her from ‘Sugar Rush’ & ‘Torchwood’, although neither were poor productions.

What a great great series I looked forward to every episode the acting was very good and Julia should be up for an award what a successful comeback to TV for her, having to wait two weeks for a conclusion was very bad of the BBC , big corporations over riding folks wishes. Robert Timmins would have something to say about that. shall miss all the charactors lets hope there is more of the same in the pipeline.

I absolutely loved it – I really think the BBC can’t be beaten when it comes to costume dramas. The quality of the production, the great cast, scenery, all wonderful.

And it’s official – a second series has been commissioned, there is a press release on the BBC’s own website.

I dont think I can wait until 2009 to know what will happen. I just liked sooooo much the young teacher that falls for Dorcas. I wish they get the character back for the next season. He was perfect for Dorcas…specially now that Timothy is gone…
Excellent show!
