Sunday 10 January
8.00-9.00pm BBC ONE

BBC One’s winter warmer, Lark Rise To Candleford, starring Julia Sawalha, Olivia Hallinan, Brendan Coyle and Claudie Blakley, returns for a third series. Based on the novels by Flora Thompson, and adapted by Bill Gallagher, the new series continues to chronicle the lives of the hamlet folk of Lark Rise and the wealthier inhabitants of neighbouring Candleford.

Daniel Parish, a handsome and ambitious young journalist, arrives in Lark Rise with exciting news for the Timmins family. Emma’s aunt has died, leaving her a large inheritance. All Daniel seeks in return for this information is permission to write their rags-to-riches story for his newspaper.

The legacy, however, seems too good to be true. It could buy them a whole new life in Candleford, and Robert a business of his own, yet Emma is troubled by this potential windfall and worries that Robert desires this new life more than she does.

Laura and Daniel, meanwhile, find a connection through their shared love of writing. She opens her heart to him and shows him her private journal. But Dorcas is suspicious of Daniel’s motives and challenges him to write about love and community instead of sensation. When Daniel’s article is published, Laura is devastated to discover that Daniel has used the contents of her journal to mock her family and friends.

As the plans for the move to Candleford gather pace, Emma and Robert hide their growing unease about leaving their home. So when they discover that Emma is one of several claimants to the money, and stands to inherit only a tiny sum, they celebrate remaining in Lark Rise and the life they love there.

Daniel, too, has come to value the way of life in Lark Rise and desperately seeks to make amends. But can he convince anyone, especially Laura, to trust him again?

Ben Aldridge plays Daniel Parish, Claudie Blakley plays Emma Timmins, Brendan Coyle plays Robert Timmins, Olivia Hallinan plays Laura Timmins and Julia Sawalha plays Dorcas Lane.

Lark Rise To Candleford is simulcast on the BBC HD channel – the BBC’s High Definition channel, available through Freesat, Sky and Virgin Media.

reply to MiaLove:

I saw on Julia Sawalha’s interview that Sydney is the only man in her heart this series. Sorry to disappoint you! But maybe in another series!
Personally I think she suits Sir Timothy best because he’s a little more of a follower and therefore, more likely to suit Dorcas’ independent nature. What does everyone else think? Tim or James?

OMG Amy , Me and my Mum really want JD back , even my Dad asked where’s the Jack Daniels fella . He of course means James Dowland but That’s pretty good considering my Dad .
I adore James Dowland I just think he and Dorcas kind of sparkle together . Sir.Tim & the School teacher , no on screen chemistry for me between them and Dorcas .
I guess that’s down to the fact that Jason and Julia are brillant actor’s , I just think Dorcas and James had the best electric on screen chemistry . Plus I’m a sucker for a good romance .
Amy what did you think of tonight’s show ? I loved the whole ” Endevour ” betweem Thomas & Magaret so funny .

What did all you other fan’s think of the show tonight ?

Also any other James Dowland fan’s out-there ? He really did love our Dorcas .

i loved tonights show Especially Minnie with her fibb or lie dilemma lol
I’m afraid I’m on the fence a bit with the Dorcas and James or Tim thing…. James stole my heart in away but I want Tim to come back because he seemed to really love Dorcas. And it would be interesting to see how Dorcas would cope with Adelaide and the baby and her feelings for Tim.
Anyway, anyway, anyway I loved tonights show and i’m looking forwards to next Sunday!!!

I liked Sir Tim, I did, but this relationship was doomed.
Then, the teacher came along, and I thought he was GREAT. I really, really liked him, and I was disappointed to see him leave. I found him and Dorcas had a great chemistry.

After that JD arrived, and he really didn’t do it for me at first, but he grew out on me, and especially in the ep where his business partner comes along. I thought it showed a more human part of him, a fuller personality.
And he’s leaving TOO. Ah! I can’t stand it. I want him back at least by the end of S3. Enough with Dorcas love interests, please, have her find hapiness at once!
In fact she didn’t even try to give him a second chance, they barely talked after the failed proposal. I think she should have at least tried to keep a little of the relationship going, and he definitely should have tried to go see her and not only send flowers.
But, if there really are only 3 seasons, I certainly hope he’ll be back by the end of it unless he really turns bad in the next 3 eps.

As for the rest, I LOVE Emma/Robert. Best married couple on TV ever. Twister and Queenie…they make my day, so funny. and Thomas! I shouldn’t be able to stand him, but I actually find him quite amusing.

I am just watching the first episode (I live in the US and have to wait for a friend to send me tapes of the series!)
I was wondering how much 120 pounds would be worth in those days…. they say it is enough to buy a new house….. but is it enough to live off of for a while?????

From Jane Austen novels it seems that 120 pounds is a decent sum of money IF you get it as an annuity every year…… but not exactly a serious fortune if you got one lump sum.
Anyone know anything about that?!
