When the Lark Rise school loses its teacher, Emma steps in and discovers a talent she never knew she had, as the period drama based on Flora Thompson’s novel continues. But Margaret, too, feels she is perfectly suited to the role, and an unexpected rivalry springs up. For Margaret, teaching offers a much-needed distraction from the heartbreak of remaining childless; while for Emma it is the chance to feel valued for something other than being a wife and mother.
Over in Candleford, Dorcas and Thomas are also at odds. Thomas is agitating about his working conditions but, when Dorcas won’t take his grievances seriously, he decides to start a union: The Candleford Post Office Letter Carriers Association, or CaPOLCA. Laura and Minnie are reluctant to join, but Thomas becomes increasingly militant, and relations between him and Dorcas go rapidly downhill.
Meanwhile, Minnie is on a mission to make herself beautiful so that Alf will notice her, and enlists the help of Laura and Dorcas to transform her. But Minnie’s new-found femininity suffers a blow when she falls over and gets a black eye. How can she face Alf now?
Despite the misgivings of their husbands, neither Margaret nor Emma will back down, so they are forced to share the role of schoolteacher. But, before long, they have set themselves up in competition with each other in their preparations for the school bazaar, with Emma heading up the boys’ team, and Margaret the girls’. Secretly, they both hope that if they perform their tasks well, it will be an opportunity to impress the school governors and further their teaching ambitions.
When Dorcas’s dispute with Thomas reaches childish proportions, she turns to Robert to arbitrate a solution. Robert’s intervention builds a bridge between them, and Thomas reveals the underlying reason for his dissatisfaction at work: his struggle to come to terms with Margaret’s apparent willingness to accept their childlessness and embrace a life dominated by work.
The day of the school bazaar arrives, but which team will win the school prize and what will it mean for Margaret and Emma’s future plans?
Lark Rise To Candleford is simulcast on the BBC HD channel – the BBC’s High Definition channel, available through Freesat, Sky and Virgin Media.

Is there any truth in rumours that in a future episode the village will be devastated by an outbreak of bubonic plague?
i don’t know sounds weird… let us know if you find out!

How many episodes are going to be in season 3? 12 is it? Im so excited that there will be more… fingers crossed for many more series to come
I was told that fisher bloom comes back is that true..would love it if he did
It is true that Fisher returns, Haye! In a few episdoes time, he writes to Laura saying that he’s returning….whether he actually will or not, we don’t know yet! I’m hoping he will though!
well on a website i know, http://www.lastbroadcast.co.uk, it says that laura recieves a letter from fisher which says hes returning, the next episodes will be revealed on friday, so you may look if you want to see what ahppens in episode 11 and 12.
Does anyone else think that the Browns might leave? What with Thomas’ disagreement with Dorcas, and in the ‘coming next time’ clips, Margaret says something about breaking away. I think the main reason Thomas is so wierd at the moment about everything is because he soooo wants children.
i read on lastbroadcast, that fisher returns, and, strangely enough, makes friends with daniel (daniel unaware of the laura-fisher history) but when he finds out, he takes it quite well. he stops the clock working, to make fisher stay. laura meets fisher by the clock at night, but daniel sees them together. he stopped the clock as a test for laura-which she failed. the description of the episode ends: ‘has he (daniel) lost laura forever?’
Gee, i hope not- Daniel all the way!
I’ve just read episode 11 plotline, and I don’t quite know what to think! Check out the plotline in this link: http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/proginfo/tv/2010/wk12/sun.shtml
I thought a link would be better for those who don’t like to know the plotline (like my sister and best friend) ahead of time!
I’m still not sure who Laura should or will go for after reading it though! It’s definitely going to be a good episode!
I adore Lark Rise and I find it’s great to have something sweet and heartwarming on TV. I don’t see why all programmes have to have violence and swearing. I was watching Harry Hill’s TV burp and he said the average viewing age for Lark Rise, is 75 to 100! Now I’m 23 and I think thats rubbish. I know other younger people who watch it as well.
i know what you mean queenmab, i am 16 now and i have been watching larkrise to candleford since i was 14!!!
My wife and I watch Lark Rise each Monday evening here in the U.S. Occasionally something is mentioned that we “Yanks” don’t quite get. In episode 9, series 3—-the girl student’s project was a candle lit, glass box of pressed flowers. My wife and I are not familiar with the name of this art form—–it began with the letter “P”. Sounded like “penasite”. Google has not been of assistance is finding an answer—perhaps due to misspelling. Can anyone let me know the correct spelling and any background on what a “penasite” is? email me at sundale@cox.net Thank you!!!
Have just watched Episode 9 where Minnie has a black eye. What a surprise to see her injury was to her right eye but five minutes later her left eye is shown to be the injured one.
There needs to be a bit of continuity between the make up artists for future episodes.
Does anyone know what a pinocite is please ? it was featured in the most recent episode but I can’t find out whether it’s a real thing or not .
Thanks
At the school the boys made puppets and the girls made a “Pin o sight” Did the writer make that up?? Does a “Pin O Signt” really exist?? Googling it gets no response!
It’s a pin-a-sight apparently…
this is from answers.com
A display custom of little girls in an Oxfordshire village in the 1880s. In Lark Rise To Candleford (1945, chapter 9), Flora Thompson describes making ‘a kind of floral sandwich’ by stripping as many brightly coloured petals as possible from flowers, and laying them on a small sheet of glass, with another sheet placed over it. The whole thing would be wrapped in brown paper, ‘in which a little square window was cut, with a flap left hanging to act as a drop-scene’. The device was called a ‘pin-a-sight’; if the girls showed them to adults, they expected to be rewarded with a pin, and recited:
A pin to see a pin-a-sight,
All the ladies dressed in white.
A pin behind and a pin before,
And a pin to knock at the lady’s door.
I’ve just read the plotline for EPISDOE 12!!! Anyone who wants to see it, here’s the link: http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/proginfo/tv/2010/wk13/sun.shtml
