Best program I have seen in quite a while! The characters are believable and you tend to lose yourself in the show. Hope they keep it going!

when margaret said she wanted togive up her and thomas’s hopes i almost had a heart atack i was so sad i was crying but when miss. lane made it clear to thomas that it only ment 4 a little while i was relived oh and i really dont think margaret could be a teacher cuz she dosn’t really know how to b strict or how to dicipline so she should stick with being sydneys governess

A display custom of little girls in an Oxfordshire village in the 1880s. In Lark Rise To Candleford (1945, chapter 9), Flora Thompson describes making ‘a kind of floral sandwich’ by stripping as many brightly coloured petals as possible from flowers, and laying them on a small sheet of glass, with another sheet placed over it. The whole thing would be wrapped in brown paper, ‘in which a little square window was cut, with a flap left hanging to act as a drop-scene’. The device was called a ‘pin-a-sight’; if the girls showed them to adults, they expected to be rewarded with a pin, and recited:

A pin to see a pin-a-sight,
All the ladies dressed in white.
A pin behind and a pin before,
And a pin to knock at the lady’s door.

At the school the boys made puppets and the girls made a “Pin o sight” Did the writer make that up?? Does a “Pin O Signt” really exist?? Googling it gets no response!

Have just watched Episode 9 where Minnie has a black eye. What a surprise to see her injury was to her right eye but five minutes later her left eye is shown to be the injured one.

There needs to be a bit of continuity between the make up artists for future episodes.

My wife and I watch Lark Rise each Monday evening here in the U.S. Occasionally something is mentioned that we “Yanks” don’t quite get. In episode 9, series 3—-the girl student’s project was a candle lit, glass box of pressed flowers. My wife and I are not familiar with the name of this art form—–it began with the letter “P”. Sounded like “penasite”. Google has not been of assistance is finding an answer—perhaps due to misspelling. Can anyone let me know the correct spelling and any background on what a “penasite” is? email me at sundale@cox.net Thank you!!!
